We attended Parenting class last night at Chesapeake General Hospital. We were really impressed with the material that was covered. Many of the things that were on our mind, which may seem minor, were covered. For example, they went over the care of the umbilical cord and the treatment after the circumcision procedure.
First, a local pediatrician spoke with us covering so many things. He spoke a lot about breastfeeding and really provided me with my first "a-ha moment" in regards to breastfeeding. I do harbor a lot of worry about it, but feel a little more relaxed hearing the more medical side of how your milk comes in, hormones required for it to come in, etc...
Once he was done, the session was passed to one of the nursery room RNs, who herself is 39 weeks pregnant! She was also very interesting to talk to. She covered care for the newborn when you get home, including bathing, swaddling, and diaper changing. One great thing about her too, was that she was close to our ages and had a lot of first hand experience as a mother to offer us.
This Saturday we have our Relaxation and breathing class. I know it is necessary, but I just feel like I am going to feel weird down on the floor in front of a room of people, breathing...

Good I'm glad your getting more relaxed, seeing as though your due date is quickly approaching.
Just be glad you have Joe to go w/you to the relaxation/breathing class. You want to talk about awkward, my friend Tanya being my birth coach and us doing "poses" and slow dancing together in class. That was awkward! LMAO
"slow dancing"...what the heck is that??? I better not tell the Hubs, he will feign sick for that one.
ah steph! you drive me bonkers! you have an accredited LLL leader right next door! i would love to help you with your breastfeeding concerns!!! if you don't feel comfortable talking to me because i'm your neighbor then i have 2 other GREAT coleaders you can talk to. the majority of the time we have more info than the doctors, including meds you can take while breastfeeding, if your baby is getting enough, how and when to pump, milk storage, etc. Please don't hesitate to ask!!!!!!
and btw, i actually did the slow dancing technique while in labor with lexi so don't discredit it!! haha, you will be in so much pain joe will do anything to make you feel better!
Aleacia-- I am sure I will need your help once the baby is here. No worries. I am the type of person who is more book oriented normally, so reading is fundamental for me. The doctor just kind of led me to understand the hormonal elements of it a little better...I never was good at science...haha Slow dancing...that is hilarious. I did tell Hubs about it last night, that apparently it is a "technique". Joe and I suffer from an inability at times to ask for help, but rest assured, I will be asking for all the help I can get once Maddox is here. Breastfeeding is best and FREE, so I need to make sure I succeed at it.
Reading is a great way to get started! I read tons of books while pregnant with Char and read some of them again while pregnant with Lexi. If you haven't already, I recommend reading anything by Dr. William Sears. He also has 2 sons that are pediatricians Jim is one of the Drs. on the show The Doctors and Robert wrote The Vaccine Book which is a very informative and unbiased insight on vaccines. Check out their website, I frequent it very often for information.

Also check out LLL's breastfeeding magazine called New Beginnings, all of the stories are written by real breastfeeding mothers. You used to have to be a member to get this magazine but they stopped printing it for new members so now its online. I have some printed copies of it if you would rather look at those but here is the online link.

If you have any issues at all ask for help as soon as possible. We have many mother's think they can ride it out and by the time they come to us they are at their wits end for something we can usually solve in a few minutes! :)
Thank goodness that the next class covers relaxation!!! I think it's just what the doctor ordered.
